CMMC program update

Announced

Phase 2 is paused. Cybersecurity readiness is not.

The Department of War paused the transition to CMMC Phase 2 while it conducts a 60-day program review. The pause changes the assessment rollout—not the duty to protect federal data.

The November 2026 Phase 2 transition and later implementation milestones are on hold during the review.

What remains

Phase 1 and the security baseline

Level 1 and Level 2 self-assessments remain in effect where applicable. NIST SP 800-171 Rev. 2, DFARS 252.204-7012, SPRS scoring, and annual affirmation still apply where required.

Practical takeaway

CMMC and its reporting obligations remain in force

The DoW did not cancel the CMMC program or the underlying rules. Accurate CMMC self-assessment results and scores, along with an annual affirmation signed by a named senior executive, must still be submitted to SPRS.
